This is a fast-paced crisis committee based on Lifetime’s popular reality TV show, “Dance Moms.” Taking place in no particular year in the mid-2000s, committee participants, competing as the moms of the show, will experience the rush of a dance competition season. This committee will incorporate memorable personalities and dances from throughout the entire series rather than being restricted to a particular season. With Maddie Zieglar off in LA filming music videos for Sia, Abby is looking for the star of the team at the top of the pyramid and the dancer earning the coveted solo at Nationals, something all the moms want their child to be.
For every crisis update, a “pyramid” ranking of the top performing dancers and those competing in the week's group number as well as additional solos will be presented. The moms will be responsible for addressing the choreography and costumes for dances, as well as addressing conflict between the children, Abby, and the moms themselves. Additional problems the moms may have to address include competition with rival studio Candy Apples Dance Center, lawsuits against Abby Lee Miller, and the passing of Abby’s dog, Broadway Baby. And remember, save your tears for your pillow!
Elizabeth is a second-year from Charlottesville, VA studying Political Science and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies on the Oxford Campus. This is her second year with the Emory International Relations Association, both as a competitor and staffer of MUNE. Outside of Model UN, she serves on the Oxford Student Government Association and researches colonial legacies' impact on the rule of law in Africa. Of course, she also enjoys binging the cinematic masterpiece that is Dance Moms, especially as a former competitive dancer! Also worth noting, per the credible BuzzFeed quiz, the dance mom she is most like is Christi Lukasiak, but as Crisis Director, she will be portraying the queen herself, Abby Lee Miller. Elizabeth is excited to welcome everyone to Emory this fall and to finally have an opportunity to put all the useless Dance Moms knowledge, taking up space in her head, to use.
Finn is a second-year student from Topeka, KS studying Business and International Studies, based at the Oxford College Campus. This is Finn’s second year as a member of the Emory International Relations Association and second year staffing MUNE. Around campus, Finn is also the President of OxBroadway, a tour guide, and on the Photography Club executive board. Whenever he has free time, Finn enjoys spending time with friends, singing karaoke and making references to Dance Moms. Finn’s experience with dance began in 2017 when he started taking ballet, but eventually danced tap and broadway jazz. Finn also has a background in theatre doing a variety of performances from musicals to haunted houses and can’t wait to let that show in committee when he takes on the role of Cathy Nesbitt-Stein as a Crisis Director. Interestingly enough, though, Finn is most similar to Jill Vertes according to Buzzfeed. He can’t wait to welcome delegates to the dance floor and is excited to hear everyone quote the moms!
