Disarmament and International Security Committee

Committee Description

External military presence and influence have historically played a significant role in East Asian geopolitics. In this conference, the role of delegates in DISEC will be to address questions of Western interventionism and colonialism in the East China Sea and the Korean Peninsula. While acknowledging the long-running hostility and alternate sources of friction between involved countries, delegates will consider ideas including the following: diplomacy and conflict resolution in the context of long-running regional tensions, the delineation between military support and imperialist expansion, and the weight of historical obligation on contemporary politics.

Chair: Megan Xing

Megan Xing is a junior majoring in Creative Writing and History. She lives in Queens, New York, where she often cares for her three(?) goldfish. In her free time, Megan likes to bake and go on long drives. She is excited to chair this committee and wield a gavel.
