Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean

Committee Description

ECLAC is one of the five regional bodies of the UN. The region is in a unique position after the pandemic, and delegates will be tasked with addressing a variety of entangled problems, noting the context of much of Latin America’s economic struggles as they emerge from the pandemic with higher levels of debt and income inequality.

Delegates will be tasked with fostering economic development in Latin America, while protecting indigenous rights, sustainability in the ocean and tourist destinations, and creating a plan that also can help the many Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the Caribbean.

Delegates should ensure that they can find creative solutions that benefit the country they represent as well as the whole committee, while also helping to preserve political stability of their states even in the period of transition that they will help foster regarding renewable energy transitions, international trade, and the advancement of socioeconomic equality.

Chair: Armen Bagdassarian

My name is Armen Bagdassarian and I will be your Committee Director for the ECLAC committee this year at ENMUNC IV! I’m currently a freshman at Emory studying Business Administration and International Studies. I’m originally from Yerevan, Armenia, but moved to a small town in Massachusetts called Watertown when I was little. I found my love for Model UN when I was thrown head first into a conference my freshman year of high school, but outside of MUN I help organize the TEDx conference on Emory’s campus, volunteer for the Armenian National Committee of America, and live off of energy drinks. I can’t wait to see you all in March, but until then feel free to reach out to me about literally anything
