The mighty Justice League, stalwart pillars of heroism and valor, have made the ultimate sacrifice. While fighting the malevolent Darkseid, each hero laid down their lives to successfully repel his invasion force. Now, the people of Earth have been left to rebuild and recover in their absence. The League has left a mixed legacy, on one hand, they defended the Earth from countless threats. On the other hand, the League was composed of god-like beings operating with near impunity, several members not even being human, and the League operated in a secret satellite base with a devastating laser cannon only discovered during the course of the conflict.
Now, with Lex Luthor poised to ascend to the Presidency in the upcoming election, a council of key scientists, governmental officials, industrialists, and allies have gathered to decide the government’s course of action. Distrust of the League and superheroes at large was already high in the US government, leading to numerous shadow programs already in existence to deal with metahuman activity, but without any real organization or oversight. Further compounding the issue is the rapid emergence of superpowered threats in all areas. Rogue nations are forming their own competing superhuman weapons programs, terrorist organizations are recruiting superpowered members, and superhuman crime is at an all-time high in the US. It is up to the members of the committee to sort out exactly how the government will proceed in its actions against the superhuman threat.
Kian Sheridan
Kian Sheridan is a junior majoring in biology on the pre-med track. He hails from Augusta, GA. When he's not widening the circle as a MUN delegate, you might find him dissecting mouse eyes as part of his research on retinopathy of prematurity in an ophthalmology lab, serving his duties as a resident advisor, tutoring the ignorant masses in the wonders of statistics as an learning assistant, or just reading a book. As a lifelong lover of DC Comics, both the actual comics and outside media, he is delighted to be doing this committee. If you couldn’t tell from the background guide, one of his hobbies is to look up obscure DC characters on the internet. With literally thousands of characters to interact with and dozens of different directions delegates can take their arcs, he is eager to see what creative solutions delegates create over the course of the weekend.
Shane Donnelly
Hi, my name’s Shane Donnelly and I’ll be one of the Crisis Directors for the Crisis on Earth MUN committee. I’m a sophomore and have been involved in Model UN since high school–I’ve loved all the experiences and community that have come with it. Outside of MUN, I play drums in a band and enjoy reading (The Color Purple is an all-time favorite) and being outdoors. I’m also a black belt in Hapkido and speak French. I’m especially excited about this committee because it pushes delegates to think creatively and tackle complex challenges in unique ways, so the sky’s the limit!
