This general assembly discusses the drug crisis, which has continued to become a more pressing issue and drug addictions become more common globally. Addiction has expanded across multiple countries, especially third-world countries. In this committee, delegates will discuss how to stem this trend and help rehabilitate those affected. The UNODC focuses on educating people about the dangers of drug abuse and helps to strengthen international action against drug production and drug-related crime.
Delegates are tasked with not just focusing on ways to protect people with drug prevention and education, but helping to protect state legitimacy in a world where drug epidemics and trafficking are threatening the authority of states. The delegates must decide any actions that could improve or alleviate the damaging effects on society.
My name is Michelle Belenkiy and I am your UNODC committee Chair. I am originally from Brooklyn, New York but I promise not to be the typical mean New Yorker (“Hey, I’m walkin’ here!”). I am a Freshman majoring in Political Science on the pre- law track here at Emory University. I am a devoted Model UNer for Emory’s travel team and hope to continue through the rest of my college career.
I absolutely can not wait to meet you all! I am so excited to be in this committee with you!
