The globalization of the 21st century has rapidly reshaped the role of tourism across the world. In a decade of mass digitization and competitive international markets, leisure travel has bridged people with new places, cultures, and worldviews. Accompanying the economic engine created by tourism, however, are concerns over its adverse effects on local economies, cultural sites, and natural environments.
UN Tourism is a specialized agency of the United Nations that is responsible for advancing sustainable, responsible, and universally accessible tourism worldwide. As an international forum for tourism policy, delegates in this committee will examine two key issues: leveraging tourism as a source of inclusive economic development and addressing the impacts of overtourism in urban centers and cultural heritage sites. Throughout this committee, delegates will navigate these complex issues and collaborate to create comprehensive solutions that work toward advancing prosperous tourism worldwide.

Yoshi is a sophomore from Los Angeles, California, intended on majoring in political science or public policy. He’s been involved in MUN for four years, and since joining the Emory International Relations Association last fall has greatly enjoyed traveling to compete at conferences. Outside of MUN, Yoshi loves biking, watching baseball, and trying out different restaurants. He is very excited to see the topics in this committee be discussed and is looking forward to meeting everyone!
